Music of the Heart was released in 2020, as a tribute to one of my all-time favorite series, Your Lie in April. It spans 12 hand-picked tracks from the soundtrack, and paints a picture of Arima Kousei’s struggling adolescence with a masterful score by Masaru Yokoyama.
The tribute album offers a variety of difficulty levels and styles in terms of the arrangements! There’s jumpy and challenging pieces such as Hikaru Nara, Again and Lie and Truth, and the more quiet, gentle pieces such as Colorful, Friend A and Feelings.
My most successful release by far, but it came at a price; as I spent ludicrous amounts of time attempting to perfect every second of it. Music of the Heart’s artwork was drawn by Phil Dragash, and the album was licensed and distributed by Soundrop. It has been streamed over 6 million times across all platforms.
I released an alternative version of My Lie with a string accompaniment later, as a single. Following the album’s continued success, I released Your Lie in April – Encore! in 2022. An expansion to the original release, adding three completely new piano arrangements, a bonus track, and another version of My Lie featuring renowned erhu player Kanae Nozawa.
